A picture taken apparently during the setup of WWDC has begun circulating around the mac web (http://www.digg.com/apple/WWDC_2006_Banner_Revieled_With_possible_hints_at_new_products). Much of what the banner depicts is nothing new, however some have pointed out that Apple is once again touting 64-bit application development, and the desktop model depicted looks very similar to today's PowerMac G5.
Core Duo (Yonah), currently used in today's iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini computers, is a 32 bit processor whereas Core 2 Duo (Conroe/Merom) and Xeon are 64 bit. A recent page 2 rumor (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/08/20060802151736.shtml) indicated that in addition to a Mac Pro introduction, the MacBook Pro may be updated to include Merom which would leave only Apple's consumer systems with 32 bit processors.

while the volt doesn't look that special or great (the volt based Opel Ampera looks much much better) it isn't a ugly car
have you take a look at the Nissan Juke recently ? i saw one in on the road today and .. it's just as hideous as on pictures
Yep, people buy far uglier vehicles. Honda Accord Crosstour, Nissan Leaf and Juke, any current generation Acura, etc.
And I do find the Volt a good looking vehicle. Although, wasn't a fan of the concept....... Thank goodness it was as aerodynamic as a brick so it couldn't enter production with that front end.

Can someone "dress up" as an Apple staff member and spy around?
Or better yet, is there anyone who can disguise himself as Steve jobs, go backstage and act all stressed out like as if you had a blackout and needed your notes to rehearse for the keynote?
Too bad I can't be there, oh well, still got January 24th in NY for the Apple tech talk, I wanna see some Leopard features and learn how to use them. Anyone else going there?

Those posts are misguided. Liquid metal is no darker than aluminum in its default state. The SIM ejection tool is quite a light shade of grey, I have one for my 3GS.
I figured that when I went onto the original company's website saw the raw metal on their homepage. :)

I have this gut feeling Apple is holding back on features not implemented yet on purpose.Just like they held back on OS X running on Intel.
If Apple were to release some of those "secret" features to developers now Microsoft would have it too and possibly add similar features at the last minute.
I also believe Apple and Microsoft are working together on some stuff.

Steve Jobs looks ill.. I am worried about him.
He seems to be grooming others to step up as Keynote presenters should he be unable to do them in the future. He's sharing the stage much more than he used to.

This one is for the materials science geeks on this forum. I had a look back to this patent where Apple was researching Carbon fibre shells:

I was also looking at how long they've been working with Liquid metal:

And it seems to me that they are pursuing BOTH technologies with equal effort. It seemed strange to me that they would put so much effort into to two technologies when they would likely only use one for cases/structural requirements.
And thenI found this excerpt from a book which describes how to fuse carbon fibre with metal alloys to create a sandwich which is similar to the first patent l linked to above.:

Based on all this, my guess is that apple is making some kind of fusion casing material that will be mouldable like liquid metal, have the extra strength of carbon fibre, and have the strength/weight properties of both. That would also explain some of the "darker" metal/liquid metal pics that have been floating around.

I agree with this poster. If Apple can make the composite of carbonfiber and Liquidmetal, it will be much stronger and probably much less expensive to produce.

My guess is .5 will be released when they are good a ready. Vista will be sucking the air out of the room for a couple months so Leopard would be lost in the heavy panting.
I don't know what .5 will bring (other then the announced features) but with all the work Apple did to get it on Intel I wouldn't be surprised to see a portable version of the OS on a cell phone (with all the pertinent apps) or ipod like device as well as portable home folders.
Anyone else remember when w95 was released? It took MS almost a year to start generating real sales. Most of that was due to the learning curve of the interface fears. Vista is a much larger leap GUI-wise and the new Office is even a larger jump. It is going to take a few months maybe a year before we see large Vista sales...prime time to convert people to something else.

Really, what's pathetic is that people continue to throw fits when very basic, watered-down information is provided by people who already got scammed into shelling out hundreds of dollars just to get the "privilege" of having enough info to do development work for the new platform!
Apple has *plenty* of secrecy already, considering nobody but a select group of employees gets to see much of the code and product designs that are still "works in progress".

I walked to the conference with a Apple employee who was staying at the same hotel as me.* As we walked, he was telling me about how secret Apple keeps the Leopard builds.* He was a tester and basically said it is on a "need to know basis". It is a very closed environment from what he was saying..* He did not have any reason to lie to me etc..
Apple would need to adopt a more open policy like Microsoft does with*
Vista and MSDN beta versions.* But there is a lot of truth about how good ideas are integrated.. Look at Widgets/Gadgets* and Spotlight/ Windows search etc..* So there are some trade secrets going on here and major competition over the same key selling points for the release.
